pizza sauce fail

I love pizza, I mean who doesn’t.  A few weeks ago Tyler and I decided we would try cauliflower crust pizza for the first time.  I have heard great reviews for this non-traditional crust and was really excited to try it!

IMG_1887The final product was really tasty!  I think I might not have pre-baked the crust enough because it was a little crumbly but still really good!  I followed Janetha’s recipe for the crust without making any changes.  I know, It’s rare for me to make something without changing it but this was something completely new to me and it had easy ingredients I already had on hand.

The sauce was where we had our main issue.  I was hoping to share the recipe with you guys but it was so spicy I wasn’t even able to eat it. I was thankful I had a jar of pizza sauce in the fridge to mix with what we had made. The little bag between the cheese and sun dried tomatos is dried halepeno peppers, bad idea!

IMG_1865Tyler can handle more heat than I can and we ended up mixing some of the sauce with regular sauce for me and kept the spicy sauce for him.

IMG_1877After the crust was pre-baked we added the two sauces and our toppings of choice.  The sauce we made was a light pink color compared to the one we added regular pizza sauce too.  Our topping choices were mozzarella, feta, mushrooms, green peppers, artichokes, and spicy chicken sausage.

IMG_1878 IMG_1882 IMG_1886I do not recommend adding habanero to your pizza sauce. I’m hoping to make this again soon and next time skip the hot pepper. If you havent tried cauliflower pizza crust yet you should give it a try soon!

Hopefully our sauce turns out next time and I can share it with you all!  As an update, last weekend when we made regular pizza we used this sauce again (we had put a bunch in the freezer) and it actually tasted fine with the thicker crust and toppings.

On a completely unrelated note: I just ordered my third pair of pro compression marathon socks.  Right now, until they are sold out, you get 40% off and free shipping on the neon colors using the promo code NEON.  I ordered my third pair last night. I have been wearing them almost non stop through my injury and am excited to add another pair.  I know I only wear them for a few hours at night but they do need to be washed more than every 3-4 wears. I know, I know I have laundry issues.

What was your last recipe fail? I tried making protein bites last night without paying any attention to what i was putting in, they turned out to be one big mess.  I will have to be eating them at work with a spoon.  Lesson learned.  I need to pay more attention to the ingredients I am using.

What do you do to help keep your legs feeling good after a workout?

  1. I hate when I have high hopes for something I’m making and it just turns out terrible!
I have tried to start stretching more after I workout so that I’m not as sore

  2. Aww that’s definitely too bad about the sauce… but at least the crust was a success! I am the BIGGEST wimp when it comes to spicy food… I’m talking like, I can’t even handle anything stronger than mild salsa… so if a recipe calls for jalapeños, I know to stay far away…

  3. I once tried making protein balls. Except I don’t have a food processor. They do not mix with a spoon haha. They came out all watery, but still tasted good.

  4. Bummer on the sauce, but I am glad that you had a good experience with cauliflower pizza crust! I LOVE it! And just a little tip…if you cook the crust on a pizza crisper (the pan with the holes in it) it gets a bit crispier! :)

  5. Sorry to hear that you didn’t like the sauce. But at least the crust was a success! The sauce and toppings are so much easier to change than the sauce thank goodness :)

I haven’t baked in a week or two so I don’t remember my last fail. However my mom just texted me yesterday that when she took a grain-free banana bread out of the oven, five minutes later it just totally fell. Haha. Just popped it back in for another half hour though and it was good to go :)

  6. Whew girl – habaneros??! Were you tryin’ to kill someone?? ;) The pizza does look incredible. I am going to have to check out Janetha’s recipe! And I need to get some of those socks – I’m sure marathon training will require compression on my legs.

  7. I had this amazing vision of a buffalo chicken mac n cheese recipe that I attempted to make last night and was super excited to blog about it. Apparently I put WAY too much hot sauce in I couldn’t eat more than two bites. It was terrible!

  8. I need to try cauliflower crust pizza! I’ve been meaning to do it for ages and still haven’t got around to it. My last big recipe fail was zucchini fritters, the mixture was way too wet and stuck to the pan and was just generally a disaster.

  9. I love cauliflower crust pizza! When I make mine, I end up eating with a fork – it’s just easier because the crust isn’t as stiff as regular pizza crust.

My latest cooking fail was when my husband accidentally turned off the oven (he was trying to turn off the timer) while I was making cookies. I could not figure out why all the cookies were still sticky and raw in the center after baking for 21 minutes! And when we realized what had happened, we laughed for a good five minutes. :)

  10. Sorry about the sauce, but at least it went will with the other pizza. If like cauliflower crust pizza. I’ve only tried two recipes, but I found one to be much better than the other. Perhaps the next time you try the sauce you might want a new recipe too? Ehhh… or not. :) Hope you’re having a good weekend!

  11. Oh no! It looks really yummy but there is no way I could have handled the heat! I’m such a baby when it comes to hot stuff! I do love cauliflower crust pizza or I make a flaxseed/almond meal crust that is really good too!
